Children of Las Brisas – The Story:
Children of Las Brisas is a story of resistance, resilience and perseverance that explores the power of discipline and classical music as tools for survival. The documentary follows three Venezuelan children from the impoverished Las Brisas neighborhood, in their quest to become professional musicians within the ranks of “El Sistema” music program. Throughout a decade, Edixon, Dissandra and Wuilly try to achieve a better future as they face the great challenges of the country’s dire situation. The Venezuelan crisis makes it impossible for them to accomplish their dreams and in their struggle, they represent a society taken over by an autocratic regime.

Live Performance by “The Residents”:
The Residents City Orchestra is all about having fun while making music together. The young orchestra members can enjoy the camaraderie of being in an orchestra and have a ‘front-row seat’ to admire the beautiful sounds of the professional musicians who join in. The children also take music lessons themselves, of course. Not necessarily from sheet music, requiring them to read notes, but primarily by ear. We learn the pieces in a playful way, by listening, imitating, and improvising. Singing, moving, and clapping are also important parts of the lessons.

The Residents City Orchestra regularly performs at beautiful and unique locations in The Hague. For example, at the Royal Theater, JulianaPlaza, and, of course, in the new home of the Residentie Orkest: Amare.
